John Cole is 12 weeks old!

John Cole will have his picture professionally taken next week at 3 months old, but I just wanted to take a second to document some things that my Mommy brain may not remember if I don't do it right now :)

John Cole you are THE BEST BABY! I know that typing that can not change your easy-going personality. As I type this, you are just chilling in your bouncy seat, checking out the lights and sounds, with NO PACI or props. You are just content--and I know what a blessing that is!

You smile at me ALL THE TIME--you give me HUGE smiles when I sing to you. You have discovered your hands, and love to look at them. We are doing a little better at getting you on a feeding routine. Your Daddy has been taking your brother to school in the mornings, and I usually wake you around 7:45 when they leave for your morning bottle. You then usually eat around 10:30, 1:30 before we go get Preston, 4:30-5, then one big bottle around 8:00 for bedtime. You sleep overnigt on your tummy (shhhhh, don't tell!) and we don't hear a peep out of you all night. YAY!

You look JUST LIKE YOUR DADDY! And I think you get your casual, laid back personality from him. (No comment on where Preston gets his high strung personality from, HA!) I don't know if that's why I am so in love with you--because it's no secret I am still smitten with your Daddy-but it might have something to do with it because I see him every time I look at you :)

For your next bottle I am switching you from the Enfamil "newborn" to the Enfamil "infant" because you are 12 weeks old. I hope the transistion is a smooth one. You are still taking your Zantac twice a day and are stillhaving rice cereal in your bottle too. I am not saying you NEVER spit up, or NEVER have gas, but for the most part you do not so I am not changing this up.

On an unrelated note, Jeff took me to Cotton last night for a V-day date and it was delicious! Def want to go back soon. I did not stay on my diet (and I am just like my Mom that rich restaurant food makes me nauseous when I am used to eating healthy) but I am not all that concerned about it because yesterday at weigh in I was at PRE-PREGNANCY WEIGHT! YIPEE! BodyBack is an awesome program and I have really enjoyed it. We have 2 1/2 more weeks....

Fun at the Fair....and a Milestone!

It has become a tradtion, I guess, for Tech to have a little "fair" come to town on the night of out playing Fresno for us to bid "FAIRwell to Fresno!" Nana and Pop came to town yesterday and went with Jeff to the little rides while I stayed home with John Cole. We then met up with K-K and Kevin at Fox's for a family meal, then all headed to the TAC to cheer on the Techsters. It was a great time--but I don't know that the cool damp air hasn't exacerbated Preston's little runny nose into something more serious. I guess I will soon see when he wakes up....but all in all it was a fun family night!

AND--the milestone is....drumroll please...JOHN COLE IS SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT!!!! Jeff and I are just waking up from our FOURTH consecutive night of sleep, and I am thinking four nights in a row is not a fluke. It's a good thing it's time for John Cole to sleep upstairs, because he is growing gangbusters and is about to outgrow his little cradle he's been sleeping in downstairs. So, wish us luck tonight as we try out the crib....think we will be fine :)

We have no SuperBowl plans whatsoever. I am still on this BodyBack program--which I can not say enough positive things about, even if you only have a small amount of weight to lose it is fun and worth it--and we don't have a TV watching house the way our furniture is set up. Sooo, I guess we will just be hanging out at home watching the game/commercials. The commercials are definitely my favorite part anyway :)

Pajama Day!

Can I just say that I love preschool??? I don't know who gets more excited when we receive our monthly calendar of events--me or Preston :) This week is "Bear Week" and we bring our teddy bear to school everyday. They must learn something about hibernation (P never tells me what they learn, so I am just guessing!) because today is Pajama Day! Now, it is 70 degrees outside, and I did my best to discourage these POLAR FLEECE jammies, but since they have a bear on them P insisted on wearing them. I pick my battles. At least he won't catch cold!!

Hope you are doing well and enjoying our mini-Spring in Louisiana! I am not convinced that we can't still get snow...so don't put up your sweaters just yet :) Happy Wednesday!

Weekend Mini-Getaway

Right after John Cole was born, my Mom said that when I was done nursing she wanted him for the weekend. This was the weekend. K-K and Gran-Gran split the time with Preston, and Jeff and I have been very grateful to have two whole nights sleep and some time to spend together away...even if it wasn't for long :)

We left Friday around noon, and headed straight to Greenwood, MS. We didn't make a single stop and pulled right up to The Alluvian. (Good thing we didn't need to stop because after Bastrop there is NOT much to look at on this drive!) The hotel is just beautiful and the town quite quaint. The Help was filmed there and I definitely recognized some of the landmarks...but I digress.

We freshened up and headed to the bar at the famous restaurant at the hotel. I did NOT stay on BodyBack Friday night. I had the first Cosmo I've had in a year and it was delicious--I am super scared I've gained back the weight I lost...but I will see Tuesday. Anyhoo, after our cocktail we headed literally across the street to the Viking Cooking School. I actually saw Suzanne Tyler's post about her time there when I decided I wanted to go, and let me just say if you and your husband even remotely enjoy cooking together you should go. I also think this would make a super fun girls night. Mom and Sis--wanna go sometime?? We made veal chops with a mushroom sauce, homeade crab cakes, pan roasted radishes and double chocolate espresso cookies. They provided an appetizer, yummy salad, wine and a Beliini cocktail. I DID NOT STAY ON BODY BACK FRIDAY NIGHT--but it was sooooo worth it!

Saturday morning we hit the gym, breakfast and leisurely headed out of town. We headed to Madison/Ridgeland to do some shopping. We lunched at PF Changs (Yay--a BodyBack option!) and also caught the new movie about 9/11. It was ok--of course really sad but it wasn't the best movie I have ever seen. Glad we got the chance though. We spent most of our time at the new shopping center in Ridgeland--complete with an Anthropologie--and can I say it is super nice. Mom and Sis--wanna go sometime?? (ha!) My biggest purchase was a summer weight coat for our cruise--TECH blue of course :)

We had dinner at a little Italian place in Madison, and headed back home. (I mostly stayed on BodyBack...) We each took an Ambien last night and slept from 10pm til 8:00 and I feel better than I have felt in a long time. Today has been spent doing little things around the house and we snuck in yet another trip to the gym and of course a Wal-Mart run for groceries. About to go pick up our boys in just a few minutes...boy, I have sure missed them!

Birthdaypalooza!

What a fun morning! Before I type another word I have to thank my sister for graciously OFFERING to keep John Cole while Preston and I attended two birthday parties this morning. (Daddy is at the duck camp--he says he's not having much luck...) THANK YOU KENDAL! You name it-it's going around out there so I really was glad my sweet John Cole was cuddled up with his aunt. Sorry he was fussy, K, he has been fussy since we got home but I think I just got him down....

Preston and I started out at sweet Sage Tolar's painting party at Buffy Walker's studio downtown. LOVED our time...and I will admit I got a bit of a kick "helping" Preston with his puppy dog. He did well, though, and I thought he stayed on task as well as can be expected when you give a 3 year-old boy a paintbrush.

Next we attended Jack Byrnes' bash held at the Party Galaxy. Didn't get a good picture of Jack but he was enjoying himself, that's for sure! I don't have to tell you what kind of time Preston had. Of course he was drenched in sweat when we left--no worries he got his exercise today. He enjoyed getting to play with Sam Hartwell as they aren't at the same school this year so they haven't been together much. He and Sam have a cute little friendship and I really like to watch them play.

All in all it was a good day. I decided not to put P down for a nap when we got home at 1:30 thinking his staying up would ensure an early bedtime tonight. Keep your fingers crossed for me as I am pretty tired from Body Back and getting up with a newborn....

Body Back

One of the main reasons I am posting this is to keep myself accontable! After hearing about (and seeing) the phenomenal results that some of my friends achieved participating in the "Mama Wants Her Body Back" program, I was toying with the idea of doing it most of my pregnancy. After John Cole arrived, I was on the fence, and since I was nursing I thought it was not the time for me. Well, as most of you know I was a quitter at nursing (not proud of this) so I had no excuses. There is no reason I can't drastically restrict my calories, workout a minimum of 5 days a week (with two sessions being in an intense group setting) and basically get my body back to its optimum condition. Now, if you know how much I love a glass of Chardonnay or a big diet Coke you know this NOT going to be easy for me. But nothing that is worth doing ever is....now, off to make dinner for night one. Whole wheat pizza crust, marinara, just a sprinkling of reduced fat mozzerella and a ton of veggies on top. I couldn't find mini-wheat crusts at Wal-Mart, so at my best estimation I can have about one large slice...and that's all...till in the morning...I CAN DO THIS!

"Everything Artsy"

In my efforts to expand Preston's artistic horizons AND work on his fine motor skills, I decided to take him to a Mommy and Me preschool art class today. The studio is called "Everything Artsy" and is run by a really sweet girl named Tanya Paul. (I can share the info is anyone is interested.) I am so glad we did this activity on this dreary winter day. John Cole even came along for the fun. Preston showed as much interest in working with a paintbrush, etc. as I have ever seen...and I think that means it was worth the money. Hope you are staying warm and dry....

Reading to brother

Love this sweet shot I snapped on my phone yesterday! Preston had the idea he wanted to "read" to John Cole...he even selected the books :) He would have nothing of ME sitting in the chair with them...wanted to do it himself. "I don't need your help, Mommy." Also loved his sweet little narration of some of his favorite books. The words weren't right but the point got across....sweet memories of this special time. Not always the easiest....but special, that's for sure!

Fun with Fireworks

Happy New Year everyone! I don't have pics from our New Years Eve celebration last night at the Hunts...but let me just say Nancy outdid even herself and I good time was had by all!

I ran to Dillards this morning for the extra 50% off sale prices sale, and by the time I got there around 11:00 it was pretty picked over as the store had opened at 8:00 today for the big event. I'll know to get there earlier next time--as the deals were pretty good. My biggest purchase was a Jessica Simpson zebra print carry-on that will be perfect for our trip to Europe in June...

Yes..you read that right. Jeff and I will have been married 10 years in June and we just this week officially booked our flights to and from Barcelona as we are taking a week long Mediteranean cruise! We can not WAIT and are so grateful our families are going to keep the boys so that we can have this time together :)

But for today, after Dillards I spent the day at Creeks Edge, and Jeff got some deep discounted fireworks that we enjoyed tonight. Preston is still not quite sure about them, and I just love that he is so cautious. He wanted to be at least 10 feet away from the bottle rockets....

Playing Outside

This is one mamma that was very excited the sun came out today! I did something I NEVER do--woke P from his nap--so he would have some time to soak up the sunshine and play with his new outside Christmas toys. His new bike is from Granfather and Gran-Gran, and they brought it by early Christmas morning before he woke up, so we had not even told him about it. He was SO EXCITED to see it--but not too much into riding it. He told me, "I can't ride this I am just a little boy." Any tips on how to teach him how to ride? I did my share of running behind him pushing his feet with my hands....no dice..

His favorite new toy was--of COURSE--his remote control monster truck! Santa was not exactly sure if this was what P had in mind, but after seeing him play today I think Santa did pretty good :)

Had to include a picture of John Cole--precious angel baby! He is really enjoying his new bouncy seat from Santa, and I am enjoying his having a new "prop." I put him in the swing a couple of times last week and he was NOT having it. Seems like I remember P didn't like it right at first either so I will keep trying....

Christmas Picture Overload

Christmas 2011 is one I will always remember--that is for SURE!!

I've spent a lot of time in the middle of the night, in the dark quiet with a newborn baby boy, and I can't help but think of Mary doing the same thing...2045 (give or take-wasn't Jesus 34 when he was crucfied?) years ago. Although so many things have changed--like my child uses the words "text" and "download" correctly in a sentence, but so many things remain the same. Like the way a baby is completely dependent on his parents and the miracle life is today just like it was all those many years ago....and the biggest miracle of all is that that tiny baby born in Bethlehem lives in our hearts today! I will never get tired of hearing the Christmas story and hope I can continue to emphasize the true meaning of the season to my boys :)

We enjoyed meeting Nana, Pop, K-K and Kevin Christmas Eve children's service last night--it was geared for the kids that's for sure but I was glad we got to share it together. We then all headed to K-K's for dinner and presents. Wasn't K's table just beautiful? We had a great night--P was the "trash man" and was pretty excited about the "biggest present in the WORLD" his new train table and his new iTouch. We called it a night and headed home....anxious for Santa to arrive (see P putting out his reindeer food) and to spend Christmas Day together....until....

Around 10 or so I was feeling pretty nauseous and asked Jeff if he was too because he was white as a sheet. Sure enough, we both started battling a bug in the next minutes. It was not a one time thing....got in touch with family at Kendal's in the night and she and Nana were sick too....must have been something we had eaten--BOO! We were all up all night and needless to say Christmas Brunch did not happen this morning...but thankfully Jeff and I felt good enough to at least make it through Christmas morning, and are both feeling almost normal this afternoon. And the ONE TIME I am glad Preston is a picky eater was last night--he had not eaten what we had that made us sick so thankfully he did not get it..whew! It's just one of those things that happen--and even though I hate it happened when it did we are still so blessed :)

Hope you have had a great Christmas with your family...now off to help Jeff put together this train table...don't know if we will finish tonight but we can try! Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.....

This shot is actually the front of The Parker Family Christmas card this year, so forgive me if you are seeing it for the second time! I wanted to post it, though, for any blog followers that may have not received cards :) Not the best shot of John Cole, but he was only 10 days old or so therefore we had to do the best we could. I'm still SO PROUD this picture, and it just makes my heart leap to have my little family complete :)

On a less happy note--the Bulldogs were not able to pull out the win last night. But, you know, I am still true blue. We may not have won, but they didn't exactly "give us hell" now, did they?

At first I was quite sad that I am not in San Diego cheering on the Bulldogs, but now I am confident my parents and in-laws are making up from my absence and am happy to be at home tonight watching the game on TV with my boys :) As I type, it is about 1 hour until gametime...and I thought I would post while I still have a very positive outlook.....GO DAWGS! BEAT TCU!

Tacky Sweaters

This picture does NOT do justice to just how very TACKY we all look at Becky, Jana and Stacy's Tacky Sweater party!! Such a fun time...and the longest Dirty Santa game EVER. Too bad I still didn't have the HO! HO! HO! sweatshirt my mom made me in Junior High. Sorry, Mom, but that was BAD.....it makes for a good story now, though :) Getting psyched up to cheer on the Bulldogs tommorrow night. I'll try to find something TECH that will fit John Cole and get a picture of both boys cheering on the Dawgs....

Shepherd's Breakfast

So happy that Jeff and I got to share with Preston this morning an activity that was centered around the real reason for the season--Jesus' birth! Our children's minister asked Jeff and I if we would be Mary and Joseph for the annual Shepherd's breakfast this morning--becuase we have the newest baby boy at church :) The three's and four's have a little breakfast (well, not little for P as I think he had FOUR chocolate covered donuts!) then go hear the shepherds tell the Christmas story. Jeff, John Cole and I just sat and listened to Brian Mercer tell the story. Never have I been so proud when Brian asked the group what was the reason we celebrate Christmas and Preston said, "It's Jesus' BIRTHDAY!" John Cole, of course, did great in his first acting role...and I think I am going to join him now for a snooze...Happy Birthday JESUS!

My Second Born Son

As promised, here is a post dedicated solely to my angel of a newborn, John Cole. I have been hesitant to type these words, because I feared my bravado would backfire, but at 3 weeks 3 days old I think I am safe in proclaiming that Jeff and I have been blessed with a calm baby!! When I was worried that I could not love another child as much as I do Preston, a good friend of mine told me not to worry my heart would grow larger when I had another child. This is SO true. There is no way for me to imagine my life without John Cole in it and there are no words to describe how much I love him :)

His likes:
1. Laying on his right ear--don't you even TRY to get him to turn to the other side! I am super scared of the helmet...any tips on getting him to turn it?
2. Sleepy sheep--never had one of these with P...can't imagine doing without it now!
3. HIS PACI!!! Hip Hip Hooray!
4. Laying in his cradle and watching us eat as a family...as long as it is on his right side :)

His dislikes:
1. Getting the hiccups--poor baby gets them a couple of times a day :(
2. His bathtime--maybe it is because it is cold but I tell you he SCREAMS..but then is super content when I get his jammies on.
3. Getting in the carseat--poor thing, he will be sleeping snug as a bug in a rug and I have to get him up and put him in the carseat to take him somewhere. Lets out a little YELP!
4. When he is just trying to sleep and big brother is playing "one man band" or "shoot the ducks" and he just can't get his sleep!

I love you JOHN COLE!!

Singing for the DMA's

I promise to do a post all about John Cole soon--but today is another about Preston. His preschool class entertained the DMA group at Trinity this morning. DMA stands for Don't Mention Age and it is a tradition for the preschool classes to do a little Christmas "show" for them. My favorite number was the kids singing Happy Birthday to Jesus--so adorable!! But, by far the best part of my day was while the kids were filing out my little man came running up to me and gave me a HUGE hug :) Makes those 2am trips up to his room to assure him that there are no racoons coming through the air vents worthwhile.......

Santa's Christmas Village

....is actually the Monroe Children's Museum...but I thought that made a more interesting title :)

I have been attending MOPS (Mothers of PreSchoolers) at First Baptist Ruston since the Fall, and have really enjoyed the meetings and getting to know the great moms at my table--the "LifeChangers." These women were also SO WONDERFUL to me--and continue to be--in the days after John Cole was born. So, I really wanted to make the MOPS playdate today at the museum :)

Initially, I asked my sweet Aunt Kristy who lives in Monroe if I could come to her house to nurse John Cole, and she graciously offered to keep him while Preston and I went. That turned out to be a REALLY GOOD idea. I thought our group would kind of have the place to ourselves but that was NOT the case....it was a ZOO! However, I am glad we went because it has been probably 18 months since P has been and he enjoyed the experiments and crafts MUCH more today than last trip. Of course, his favorite part was playing in (ie throwing and laying around in) the play "snow" scattered around the building but he also enjoyed some of the more "scientific" activities.

Breakfast with Santa

I didn't get many pictures this morning, and because Bart and Joanna were parenting Preston I spent most of my time at Breakfast with Santa actually eating breakfast :) I am sure that Allison got a GREAT picture, but I snuck a few myself and I love this one of Preston nailing down with Santa that he STILL wants a monster truck. Glad to get John Cole and Aiden together for the first time for a photo-op...he is just adorable! K-K went with me and her help was much appreciated--she was in charge of helping Preston "write" his letter to Santa--Thanks K-K! This is such a sweet time in my life, and I feel SO BLESSED to be able to make these memories with my sweet boys....Merry Merry!

PS--As I type I am being serenaded by Preston with his new fav Christmas tune, 'I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.' Too funny :)

Trial Run

Yes, I realize that one of my children is absent from this picture...but he was snoozing in his seat when we went to CTB today and John Cole was not the one I was worried about :)

Preston is officially over his fear of Santa! He walked right up to him, told him he is "Preston Parker" and he wants a "big monster truck." Now, if you know me very well, you know that I have probably never used "monster" and "truck" in the same sentence before I had a son....just not my thing....but my ALL BOY Preston is into some monster trucks!!

Can't wait for tommorrow's OFFICIAL visit with Santa at Squire Creek--complete with knee socks, saddle oxfords and matching red piped outfits....until then....

Christmas Jammies

Rainy Morning Project

I may just have to stop calling myself the opposite of crafty if I keep churning out projects like these :) Preston really enjoyed decorating his choo-choo train this morning, and to be as unskilled with a frosting bag as I am I think it turned out quite well if I do say so myself.....

Family Outing

We took our first family of four outing to the annual Hanging of the Greens service at Trinity tonight--and it went quite well! This is one of my favorite Christmas traditions, and I sure enjoyed sharing it with all of my boys this year. Thanks K-K for your help during the service :)

First Days

Aside from some nursing issues on Saturday--that thankfully for the most part have subsided--we have had a wonderful first few days at home with both Preston and John Cole! I did get a taste of my new life this morning as BOTH sets of cradle/bed sheets had to be changed this morning, but you know, I can handle it. John Cole continues to be a very easy baby, letting out a little YELP! when he needs some attention, and Preston is just the best at being big brother. Of course, it helps that he gets a present almost DAILY for being a big brother...but if spoiling him a little bit gets us through then I am ok with that :) I am so grateful for Jeff's help this week--couldn't have done it without him that's for sure--but I think he was READY to go to work this morning.....

This cool weather is kind of nice if you ask me...perfect to be snuggled up at home with my boys...more later....

John Cole Parker is BORN!

John Cole Parker was born on Tuesday November 22, 2011 at 4:47 pm weighing in at 7 pounds 1 ounce and measuring 19 inches!

My labor story is quite long and involved--it would be one for me to tell you in person--but the synopsis is that I started the early processes of labor on Monday night, went to the hospital in the wee hours Tuesday morning, almost had them send me home, started progressing, had some amniotic fluid leak (water breaking) then Dr. LeBleu said "Let's have a baby today!" The only real pain I experienced was after my water was broken before I had the epidural. After the drugs, it was a very moving and wonderful experience that I will never forget!

John Cole is absolutely perfect! Now, I am not naive enough to believe he is not going to find his lungs, but right now he is an absolute DREAM of a newborn. He nursed vigorously right out of the womb, and aside from a long stretch of sleep right after he was circumcised, he continues to be a CHAMP at feeding. It's funny--he won't EVEN let me help him latch on--he has to do it HIMSELF. Too cute! We are not sure who he looks like just yet...a little like his big brother...but then yet not. All I know for sure is that I am completely in LOVE with him :)

Many thanks to Aunt K-K for coming over in the middle of the night so we wouldn't have to wake Preston when we went to the hospital AND for keeping him all day while I was in labor. And also thanks to Nana and Pop who still have Preston--kept him during our entire hospital stay and are bringing him back sometime this weekend--so Jeff and I can establish some sense of normalcy before brining an ACTIVE toddler back into the mix :)

Polar Express!

In hindsight, scheduling a trip to the middle of nowhere Texas 4+ hours away from St. Francis 37 1/2 weeks pregnant was NOT the smartest decision I have ever made. But, if you have spent any time with Preston, you know riding on a real train is just about the greatest thing he can imagine so I booked a ride on the Polar Express for November 19th. Well, shortly thereafter Jeff said he was going hunting that weekend, so Nana volunteered to be my companion for the trip. After seeing the OB Tuesday, no one would hear of me making a go of it so Nana and K-K were going to take him....UNTIL....

Preston doesn't eat much. He hasn't gained weight in over a year--just gets taller. So, when he didn't eat Friday I didn't put two and two together and realize he had the beginnings of the stomach bug going around Trinity. Well, sure enough, the morning of the Polar Express, poor little man had a round of the bug :( It was over pretty quickly but he could not travel that day. So, Nana and K-K really stepped up to the plate to change their plans to take him on Sunday. Mind you, when I called first thing Sat. AM to cancel there were no seats on Sundays train--but when the super sweet girl heard P in the background crying "I want to go to the Polar Express!" low and behold seats appeared :)

Preston says his favorite part of the trip to the North Pole was "dancing with the hot chocolate girl." I think we have a little charmer on our hands, folks! Another observation I can't help but make is that I ought to get a good picture with John Cole AND Preston with Santa this year...because he is obviously NOT afraid of him anymore. YAY!! You can tell his little coloring is not like it normally is--he looks pale--but the wonder in his eyes is what Christmas is all about....

Thanksgiving Feast

It is a definite certainty that Nana and I were looking much more forward to Preston's Thanksgiving Feast today than he was, but I think he had a pretty great time! It was very special to see him in what was really his first "production" and to see all of the other precious children joining in the fun. By the time Nana and I left him at 11:30 or so he was already EXHAUSTED, and he did NOT take a nap, but tired (i.e. unpleasant) mood and all I was so proud of him....more later...

***Pregnancy Update**
This may be TMI but I am assuming that you are a friend if you are reading this blog, so hopefully you won't mind :) Went to OB yesterday and I am 2cm dilated and 60% effaced...which makes the constant contractions I was having this weekend make SENSE! Still having them..and feeling like John Cole will be here literally any day now. Please keep baby and me in your prayers--especially baby!!

35 weeks

It seems like time has flown by, and at the same time it feels like it has taken forever, but John Cole is 35 weeks today and I think this last picture of him just may get me through these last four (gasp!) weeks. Aren't his chubby little cheeks just THE CUTEST? He is weighing in at a whopping 5.5 lbs, and measures right on track except for an exceptionally long femur. Looks like he is going to be right around 7.5 lbs and be long just like his big brother. (Preston was 21 3/4 inches at birth!) John Cole is the picture of health, and so am I with the ONLY thing even mentioned that is not just ideal is that he is sunny side up. I am really hoping he decides to turn, but if you could have seen (or could feel) how tightly he is squished way down low I don't know how that would be possible. BUT, Dr. LeBleu assures me she can flip him....TMI for some of you out there possibly..sorry!

I am looking forward to the cold front coming in tommorrow, except for the fact that my maternity winter options are VERY limited!! And I REFUSE to buy one more article of clothing that is "maternity" so you may just see me wrapped up in a scarf :) Hope all is well with you and yours and enjoy your extra hour of sleep this weekend!!

This mama (and mama-to-be) has had a LONG day, but I wanted to get this post up so Nana could check it out :) And to say I can not WAIT for my birthday pre-natal massage from my parents which is scheduled for the morning is an UNDERSTATENT! Back to Halloween :) The next few years will probably be fun, but three is DEFINITELY a fun year to take a child trick-or-treating! Preston had a blast, and Jeff and I learned some things as this was really the first year we have taken P on a formal trick-or-treating trip. I did take him downtown while Dad was still at work, and it was fun, but I would definitely say to come early and then get out early. We ran into a lot of friends, including Ally--such a cute couple :) After that downtown, we headed to CTB, Resa's and K-K and Kevin's house. It was leaving The Singhs that he had his only real "I want CANDY!" meltdown of this night. Otherwise, he did great to understand that he could only have a small amount of candy. (And P.S. Kendal he DID get into his flashlight--he was having a ball with it in the car when it got dark!) So, after those stops we thought we would head to Wedgewood because we heard a lot of people go there and WOW--I had NO IDEA! It was like a scene out of a movie or something but super fun. We ran into Davis and I love this pic of them together :) We stayed there until it was getting dark and decided to make one more stop and Grandfather and Gran-Gran's then head home. We dined on cheesetoast, tomato soup and apples and put a really tired little BUZZ down to bed. What a FUN night! Hope you all got lots of treats :)

Fall Festival

Well, today is my 33rd birthday and although I have a nasty sinus/allergy related cold(that I don't think is contagious because neither Jeff nor Preston is sick) I can honestly say that I don't know that I have ever felt more blessed! A perfect example is that on our ride home from Fall Festival, after Preston realized that my birthday was almost over and there had been no birthday cake, he asked his Daddy if Mommy had a birthday cake :) **I DO NOT WANT A BIRTHDAY CAKE! I WOULD EAT THE WHOLE THING!** But how incredibly sweet was it that my little man wanted to make sure my birthday did not pass without what he considers to be the best part....Many thanks again to all of you who have made my birthday so special!

Fall Festival was at our church this afternoon and it was a great time! We were about an hour late because of nap--for Mommy AND Preston, HA!--but we had time to do most all of the activities. Shown are pictures of the hot-air balloon ride, cake walk and pony ride. Of course Preston spent some time in the jumpy, and he and Daddy rode the hayride. We enjoyed our viist with Resa and seeing our church family, and are so grateful to have a Church home that really values family and the nurture of children!

Can't wait to take Buzz out Trick-or-Treating tommorrow night! Hope to have pics up soon thereafter for Nana and Pop :) Hope you have had a great weekend!

Under the Big Top

Well, it was a pretty big tent--only one ring inside but I assure you Preston did not notice :) Jeff is gone to the World Series tonight so I was happy to have a date with my little man this afternoon as we went to the circus the Jaycees brought to town. We only arrived minutes before the show started, so we (thankfully!) only had time for one ride. It may have not been the best parenting decision to let him ride an elephant that I had no guarantee was trained, but it turned out fine and he LOVED it!. The actual show lasted two hours, and although parts of it were downright comical, I am grateful we had the opportunity to attend so close to home. I just put a tired little boy to bed--who had essentially popcorn for supper--but it was a day to remember for sure. Happy Week!

TAC Halloween

I'm pretty sure I have blogged before that I have "never seen Preston more excited" but I can honestly say that all of those days paled in comparison to how excited he was about going to Trick-or-Treat at the TAC last night! Thursday afternoons are usually NOT his good times, because he doesn't nap at school, so I picked him early so I could get him home to nap. After a THREE HOUR slumber, he was raring to go! Jeff and I actually had a couples shower to attend last night, so Miss Paige was so sweet to take him and I really regret I don't have pics of the actual event but I did hear LOTS of stories this morning :) Have a great weekend everyone!

***Pregnancy Update***
Saw Dr. Lebleu yesterday and it was VERY uneventful...and that is a good thing! I go back on November 2nd for appt/ultrasound, then start my once weekly visits. I am still feeling pretty good--tired in the evening but that's probably because I do to much during the day :) My lower back has been bothering me, don't remember this with Preston, but I realize if that is all I have to complain about I am BLESSED!!

It's no secret that I am the opposite of crafty. In fact, just last night Jeff and I had the conversation that we really need to make sure Preston does his math and science homework, because he will probably need to go into one of those fields as there is not a left-brained person in his ENTIRE FAMILY :) I mean, Kendal and I can play the piano, but not by ear by training, which is totally right-brained. Ok, back to the subject :) It is my week to bring snack to school, so I thought I would try a Halloween themed goodie. Chuck E Cheese

Tonight was not Preston's first trip to Chuck E Cheese in Monroe--his Aunt K-K and Uncle Kevin took him when we were gone to Dallas this Summer. He was SO EXCITED to get to go because he kind of knew what it was all about and we had a great family night! P and I picked Daddy up from work just a tad early to beat the rush, and we went straight there. We were all hungry, so we ordered our pizza right away. (Note: the pizza was not half bad--but I am pretty pregnant and will eat just about anything right now :) Of course, we played some games first, but then sat down to eat and Preston actually ate pizza since we told him he had to if he wanted to play more games. We were there about an hour and a half total, and he really was pretty good at the games. Now, skeeball was not his forte--but he cheered himself on every time he got a gutter ball. "Yes! I DID IT!" His favorite game was shooting plastic balls into a moving hippo...and it was pretty tough to actually score...but he didn't care--he was just having fun throwing the balls. I got a workout from picking up the misses :) After redeeming our tickets for Nerds and AirHeads, we ran to Target then headed home. Just put a sleepy boy to bed...hope he sleeps in tommorrow!! Sunday at the Red Apple Farm

Sunday afternoon, Jeff took Preston down to Sikes, LA to his Dad's "farm"...which mainly consists of a weekend home, barn, land, a fishing pond and some cattle. I don't know how many cattle, but a fair amount, and right now they have three baby cows. It was very strange for both of my boys to be gone, but I knew they were having a GREAT time. Another note is that gone are the days that Preston is scared of the 4-wheeler! Jeff says he is no daredevil but he is not scared to go for a ride. Please excuse the quality of these iPhone pics, but I wanted to document our fun day spent in Shreveport today with friends! We started off our morning with a visit to baby Hayden James Horvath, born to Leslie and Ryan just 8 days ago! Leslie looked WONDERFUL and baby Hayden slept our entire hour long visit. I am so excited that Leslie is back in Shreveport as she has been in Dallas the past couple of years--hope to make some playdates for John Cole and Hayden in the future. Preston was ALL ABOUT holding the baby, and this picture just makes my heart leap when I think that in a few short weeks he will be holding his baby brother :)

After a couple of quick errands we then headed to my FAVORITE Mexican restaurant--Tacomania--to meet up with Lindsay and Caroline Smith. We had originally planned on meeting at Chick-fil-A, but Lindsay has heard through the mommy grapevine that there is a nasty stomach bug that seems to show up after a trip to the Shreveport Chick-fil-A :( Just thought I would share that just in case anyone was planning a trip any time soon....I digress. Lindsay and I had a great lunch and visit, and Preston and Caroline really had fun! Now, they barely ate, but what can you do? We made a quick trip to Ellis then headed back to Ruston. All in all it was a perfect day!

Sweetness!

Although I know in my heart that John Cole is perfectly healthy, when Dr. LeBleu said he was "measuring small" two weeks ago I think I would not be human (or a mom-to-be) if I did not have a brief moment of concern. However, today when both Jeff and I (wasn't it sweet of him to come!) got to get a sneak peek of this little bundle of joy, all concern was put to rest. You see, not only is this baby NOT SMALL, he's gonna be big! Preston weighed 7 lbs 15 oz and John Cole is right on track to be around 8 lbs...because he already weighs 3 1/2 lbs! I ask A LOT of questions when I am having an ultrasound--can you see heart valves (no, not at this time but all four chambers are there), is the heart on the left (yes it is), is his cord in danger of wrapping around his neck (no, I have a lot of fluid so that is usually not an issue when there is plenty of amniotic fluid), is his head down (YES! His head is camping out way down in my pelvis--that's why I seem small--he's getting ready to go!), does his spine look healthy (perfect!). You get the drift....I am probably a little bit annoying but I just CAN'T help it! It's my BABY!!!

Battle of the Bulldogs

As I sit here, I feel like I need something to prop my eyelids open, but I am so glad that we decided to take a Parker family outing to Starkville yesterday to see the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs play the Mississippi State Bulldogs :) We left yesterday around 9:30 and headed straight to Starkvegas. We got to the alumni tailgate tent with plenty of time to hang out with our family that had also made the trip. We headed into the game and were VERY excited to see that Nana and Pop had seats that were so close to ours...that REALLY helped us with Preston. He was a TROOPER and we got to watch the whole game...even into the devastating overtime loss that I just can't talk about right now. After the game, we drove about an hour to a Holiday Inn Express in Winona to peel off clothes, put on jammies and put a VERY tired little boy to bed. I was almost congragulating myself on how EASY this all was until litle man sleeping between Jeff and me started tossing, and turning, and kicking me in the back...etc. WHEW! We didn't get much sleep but it was a family adventure that's for sure. The definite low point was Preston's insisting at 2:30 in the morning he was "really hungry" that was fixed by animal crackers and water All in all, it was a super fun time and I am so glad we decided to go. After all, Preston needed to get started on checking off all of the stadiums he's been to...and technically John Cole went with us too! Hope you have a great week!

Hard Fought Loss

I've said it before, and I am sure I will say it again: It's HARD to be a Louisiana Tech Fan!! It is not for the faint of heart, and will test your loyalty almost weekly, but I continue to be TRUE BLUE even after heartbreakers like last night!! The loss at the end of the game was a bad ending to a just about perfect day. Yes, it was still a little warm, but all in all we had a great time tailgating and watching the game. Preston did great for the most part--it's HARD for him to sit still for that whole game--but with EVERYONE's help we get through. Thanks fam for helping me with him :) Love the pic of P "tailgating"....he looks like a little man. Also, thanks to Gran-Gran for the cool new Tech shirt! There's always next week DAWGS!

***Pregnancy Update***
I passed my glucose tolerance test this week-YAY!- and had a good appointment. BP still 90/60, have gained 14 lbs. feeling good. Dr. Lebleu was a little concerned that John Cole is "measuring small" and wants to do an ultrasound on the 28th to make sure he is still growing as he should. I am really not worried though, as I think I'm just long-waisted and don't carry as "far out" as some people do. I can't wait to get a peek at him though :) IT'S ALMOST TIME!

Everything But the Kitchen Sink

I'm not the craftiest cook out there, but I LOVE this easy recipe and it can be changed to celebrate most any occasion just by changing M & M colors! I just whipped up this batch for Louisiana TECH tailgating tommorrow, but you can pick your team colors, or fall colors, or Christmas colors...you get the drift, and it's a CAN'T miss. This recipe is found in Mardi Gras to Mistletoe-Junior League of Shreveport. Happy Birthday Pop and GO DAWGS!

"Everything But the Kitchen Sink" Bar Cookies

1 roll refrigerator chocolate chip cookie cough
1 7oz jar marshmallow creme
1/2 c creamy peanut butter (I think I use more than this-too lazy to measure!)
1 1/2 c corn Chex (again, I may use more/less, just eyeball)
1/2 c M & M's (pick your colors, no need to measure here either)

Pat the cookie dough over the bottom of a greased 9 x 13 inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 13 minutes. Drop teaspoonfuls of the marshmallow creme and peanut butter over the top of the baked layer and bake for 1 minute.

Carefully spread the melted marshmallow creme and peanut butter over the top. Sprinkle with the cereal and chocolate candies and bake for 7 minutes longer. Cool in the pan on a wire rack and cut into 2-inch bars.

Rainy Game Day

Jeff and I both knew yesterday that it was not looking good for our trip to Hattiesburg today. I was keeping a positive attitude, drug out all of our raingear, and went to bed last night still planning to go. We woke up this morning, however, and realized that even IF the game gets played, it sure won't be much fun sitting in 25-35 MPH winds. We are SO GRATEFUL to K-K and Kevin for offering to keep P while we went to the game, and for the date night last night, but do feel like we made the right call cancelling our room and trip. I guess we'll just consider our game tickets a donation to the cause of getting Tech's traveling fan numbers up:)

When K-K brought P back today from a big day spent in Bossier, he INSISTED on putting on his TECH jersey for "gameday." He told me he was the quarterback, I was the cheerleader and he was going to tackle Daddy. As you can see, he is definitely getting his tackling practice....and he has really gotten STRONG! We've really had to hammer in "no tackling girls or mommies" because he packs a whallop when he comes at you :)

Preston's First Day of Pre-K3!!

I can not TELL you how excited Preston was this morning to go to his "big boy room" for his first official day of Preschool in Mrs. Tory's class today. You see, he is going to Trinity, like he has all of his life, but we made a big deal about it being a big boy room, with a big boy potty, etc. Normally, I send ratty spare clothes to school, becuase I don't know how the teachers do it but somehow they really keep the kids pretty clean. This year, however, I sent a pretty nice outfit because I am so stressed out he is going to get excited and not want to stop to go and have an accident...but he could certainly prove me wrong :)

My mom has been telling me that this is the most fun age--and I think I agree. I wish I could bottle his CONSTANT wanting to learn new things that is coupled with the most sweet innocence. So excited to hear about what he has learned today!! More later...

***Pregnancy update***
Just clicking along and will be 26 weeks tommorrow! Hooray! I am starting to get a little tired again, and slightly uncomfortable when turning over in bed, but for the most part I still feel GREAT! I will, however, NEVER cease to be amazed at things people consider to be appropriate to say to a pregnant person. Now, the belly rubbing doesn't bother me at all, as only people I know want to do that, but the little comments REALLY get under my skin. Even something as simple as "you sure are getting bigger" is something I could do without. I mean, it is not polite to tell someone who is not pregnant they "sure are getting bigger" so I just don't know why people think you can just say that to a mom-to-be and not consider that it could be offensive.....that's my rant for the day :)

Pigskins and Pearls

It is true we were at the very back, but I think we were the cutest bunch there :) After reading Jessie's blog post, (and stealing this picture, thanks!) I will agree with her that even though only two years old, P & P has become one of my favorite events as well! I am always up for an opportunity to both support my University and such a great cause as the Boys and Girls club all at the same time. Just one week til kick-off....GO DAWGS!!

3rd Birthday Party

We didn't get a ton of pictures this morning, and even with my fancy camera a LOT of the images are blurry because all of the kids were constantly in motion :) We did get a few cute ones, though, that I wanted to share. The party went well at the Party Galaxy this morning (I think!) and all of the kids were sweaty and exhausted when they left. Preston enjoyed jumping, his racetrack cake and mostly his chocolate ice cream. My favorite pic is when he is making his "silly face." We opened gifts when we got home, and I can't tell you how blessed this little boy is. Thanks to all of you for helping us celebrate and we hope we can celebrate many more with you! Also, thanks to Nana for coming early and helping me decorate. And, of course, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my little man!

Birthday Morning

Calling all Louisiana Tech Fans!

We are all (mostly pregnant Mommmy!) pretty worn out from our Sunday so far but I wanted to document our day. We started off our day with Sunday School and Worship--it was promotion Sunday so Preston got to go to a new big boy classroom. No diapers allowed--and he did great! His thoughts about his new class, "They don't have racecars or people (he means littlepeople), but they do have dinosaurs and a kitchen!" After we left Trinity we headed to a quick lunch and then headed to the TAC for Louisiana Tech Football Fan Day.

Fan day was a HIT with Preston--he was living it up and tried out all the activites there were to offer. He was not scared of TECH the Bulldog at all, and walked right up to pet him. Then came the jumpy, of course, followed by football toss, face paint, a little visit with CHAMP and even a photo opportunity with Tech's QB Colby Cameron. I wanted to include the piture of he and Miss Paige--she was at the beach this past week with another family and Preston REALLY had missed her. It does my heart good to see how much he loves her, because I know that means she loves him too. After a little more jumpy time and some bubble chasing, we decided it was time to head home. It is too late for him to nap, so he will definitely be down early tonight. Hooray!

Just wanted to comment that little Aiden Haddox has been discharged from the hospital and continues to improve. He still has a hole in his tiny little heart, but he is gaining some weight and is breathing more normally so surgery can be postponed for now. Thanks for your prayers for this sweet family! Clean TEETH!

This post is in honor of POP! Preston was such a BIG boy at his first trip to the dental office today. Pop has requested that he not be Preston's dentist, and I totally understand why. Turns out, though, that Preston had so much fun today I don't think he would have been a challenging toddler patient :) These pictures are actually staged, as Amanda requested I not be in the room for the actual cleaning, but she said he was very well-behaved! Mrs. Amanda is actually a friend of mine and I really respect her as a hygenist. She said that Mommy and Daddy are doing a good job with our brushing, although he did have some tartar build-up on the fronts of his teeth. That is weird because I thought that's where I was doing the best job? Who knows--at least I know where I need to improve.....more later....

Fun on the Farm!

Papa Simpson's farm may just be Preston's favorite place on EARTH! I actually put Daddy on birthday party duty yesterday to celebrate George Smith turning 3....I had a lot of errands since we just got back from Dallas...and it was just TOO HOT! (Yes, I used my pregnant card.....gotta do it when you can!) As you can see, Preston and all of the kids had just the best time--but I can't tell you what he smelled like when he got home...OMG!! Straight to the bath he went...

We had a great trip to Dallas-thanks so much to K-K, Kevin and Gran-Gran for keeping Preston! The Four Seasons Las Colinas was just divine, and we spent our days doing not much of anything. We did squeeze in TWO movies and TWO hour-long gym workouts together...now that is the LIFE :) Of course, we ate A LOT, and I spent two hours in A Pea in the Pod, but for the most part we browsed and talked and enjoyed just being together.

I would like to close with a special prayer request. PLEASE say a prayer for Aiden Haddox who is in the PICU at St. Francis dealing with heart complications--he is only WEEKS old! He went into heart failure that is now being controlled by meds, but will almost certainly need surgery to repair his heart. The prayer is that he can wait to have the surgery until he is older and stronger. PLEASE pray for him, and his parents Larkin and Ben. THANKS!

His great Aunt Kristy (my Dad's siter, we favor, don't you think?) called and got our opening night, second row, aisle seat tickets the day they went on sale I think :) We me up with her at Chick-fil-A Cow for a quick bite before the show, and then settled in. They did not allow photography, so I could only sneak a couple of shots of the players getting their accolades...but I will have to say I was very impressed with the show. Preston watched the entire performace with the utmost attention being paid to every detail and the absolute best behavior I have seen him exibit in a theater to this date. So glad to have arrived at this milestone! I also am VERY happy to say we made our first out-of-town trip in undies last night and Preston continues to go without accident!!! He also just woke up from his first no-pullup nap and is dry as he can be--YIPPEE!! Now, I am by no means an expert at parenting, but all of that they say about kids will potty train when they are good and ready, it's TRUE! I digress. Going to make it an early night around here so we can leave bright and early for Canton in the morning...Happy Weekend!

Kendal's Meat Pie

Y'all know I don't post recipes all of the time, but I pulled out this oldie but goodie from Kendal's 4-H Beef Cookery days (if my memory serves me correctly this recipe went all the way to state!) to make for a new baby and decided to whip up a batch for my family today. I tell you, this is not gourmet, but it is the very definition of quick and easy, and your husband WILL like it! (Don't know about your kids...mine probably won't touch it...but I'm picking my battles!)

1 1/2 lbs ground round (I never buy ground round, I buy lean beef-your choice!)
1 c chopped onion
3/4 cup chopped bell pepper
1 can cream of chicken (low-fat, low sodium at our house)
1/2 t. garlic (or more if you are like me and get a little garlic happy!)
red and black pepper to taste
2 refrigerated pie shells

1. Brown meat with onions and bell pepper. Drain.
2. Add soup and seasonings. Mix well.
3. Pour mixture into pie shell. Top with other pie shell. Flute edges. Cut 4 slits in top.
4. Bake at 400 degress for 20 minutes until brown. VOILA!

I'm going to round out our meal with some fresh black-eyed peas (THANKS MOM!) and maybe a tomato. Let me know what you think-hope you enjoy!

There are some things that are most definitely NOT more fun when taking a toddler on vacation--for instance, you do NOT sleep in :) With that being said, there is nothing better than witnessing the childlike wonder and amazement of something as simple as the waves of the ocean crashing onto the sand. I will trade my beauty sleep for those memories any day...

We had a great vacation this past week to Orange Beach with my parents and K-K and Kevin. We did take a family beach picture all in white...but I have some editing to do and will post that later. For now--some pics and a snipit of our week!

Saturday-leave early to drive down; HORRIBLE traffic; quick trip to beach before dinner with Preston; dinner in condo
Sunday-beach pool day! Jeff and I took Preston on a Dolpin cruise in the late afternoon and it was SPECTACULAR! So glad we did it--the dolpins were so close!! Dinner in condo.
Monday-JULY 4th!! Full beach/pool day. Clean up early to go out to The Hangout for dinner (see P doing the "chicken dance!); Trip to Scoops followed by a great fireworks show at the Gulf State Park!
Tuesday-Preston goes to the Train Museum with Nana, Pop and Uncle Kevin. He has said this was his favorite part of the trip. Mommy and Daddy went shopping and to lunch, had a nap, then we spent some time on the beach then had dinner in the condo.
Wednesday-Jeff and Pop go play Craft Farms in the morning. Mommy and Nana spend time at the Pool with P. We get cleaned up and all took P to The Track in the later afternoon. He LOVED the go karts, bumper boats, airplane, mini ferris wheel, and OF COURSE he wanted to ride the choo-choo! Dinner at the condo.
Thursday-Girls head to Destin to shop while boys head to Aviation Museum in Pensacola. Guys nap and play at pool in the evening...Jeff and I went on a date to Grazie that night. YUMMY!
Friday-Last day on the beach. Cloudy morning lets us spend a lot of time by the ocean. Lunch, nap, clean up for family pics, and pizza at Franco's. Can you tell that I am pregnant because I am so worried about the food?
Saturday-up early to head home. Laundry ALOMOST DONE! Hope to enjoy tommorrow with my guys!

I am grateful for such a wonderful trip, and for my family to share it with. LOVE YOU GUYS! It sure is hot back here in Ruston-hope you are all staying cool! Family beach pic to come later...

I guess it might be considered crude to post "proof" of your baby's sex--hope no one is offended :) But there was NO DOUBT today at 16w4d that John Cole Parker is on his way!! We will be Southern and use both names--if you are reading this please help me keep both names stick. Jeff, Preston and I are so very excited and are so very thankful for all of your prayers. The ultrasound tech (who happens to also work for my OB!) said she did see an amniotic band that I will point out to perinatology Tuesday, so I would ask that you pray that is nothing.

Now, time to do some online shopping!!! YAY!

and I REALLY like kids clothes!!

My fist step is admitting I might have a little problem when it comes to how much I love to purchase clothes for Preston--and baby on the way :) I am SO crazy that I drove to Shreveport and spent money on an ultrasound (which I have EVERY time I go to the Dr. for essentially "free") just to see if there was any way I could know what I was having before driving to Natchez for the Kelly's Kids Warehouse Sale today. (Ok, other reasons than just Kelly's Kids but it was the main one !) Soooo, since the ultrasound technician could not pinpoint the sex-basically there is a boy part there but she's not sure if it is sticking around or not-I could not justify going CRAZY one way or other even though the prices today were VERY good. BUT, I did get a couple of things....

I purchased a cute little coordinating blue/brown set IF baby Parker is a John Cole to wear FIRST THING--the little brown corduroy shorts are TINY. Also, I purchased a coordinating searsucker pants/girls outfit for next Summer IF baby Parker is a Vivian. (Joanna, this baby girl outfit would work for you I think and I will give it to you if I don't need it!!) Of course, I bought a few things for Preston, and am going to have to eat my words with a couple of things I bought. You see, I thought I was done with longalls for Preston, but I fell in love with a couple today and he's just gonna have to undo the buttons on the top and go to the potty like he's got on overalls because they were too cute to pass up. AND, for $5.99, I can monogram them and have a neat custom outfit for CHEAP. That is, unless baby Parker is John Cole and I don't want to go too terribly monogram crazy......decisions, decisions.....

I am BEAT from my long morning--don't know why but it is super tiring to fight that crowd--but it was worth it!!! Happy Father's Day weekend everyone!!

Little Swimmer

Since I am not from Ruston, last Monday was my first trip to Mrs. Lambright's pool for a swimming lesson from Mrs. Linda Causey. After seeing what she could accomplish in 10 thirty minute sessions in two weeks, I know see what all of the fuss is about :) She is an amazing teacher, patient and firm all at the same time, and Preston really did learn so much from her. Now, I will NOT be allowing him to "swim" unsupervised (i.e. without me IN the pool) without his puddlejumper, but I am assured he at least has a foundation of good technique from which to build as he becomes a more confident swimmer these next years. I took off work for two whole weeks to do this with him (with the exception of one day that I just HAD to go in) and I really enjoyed my time with him. Now, I am ready to get back into my work routine, but am a little bummed out that since the Ruston Wal-Mart has lost a Pharmacist I am going to have to pick up some extra shifts in Ruston until they find a replacement. Well, I don't HAVE to, but it is the right thing to do because if I don't it will place a HUGE burden on the other two Pharmacists....so much for my lazy summer I guess. Hopefully, a replacement will be found soon. Until then, we will still be swimming and enjoying our summer on the days I am home. Hope you are surviving this WILTING heat. I actually decided NOT to go lay out this afternoon and that is saying something...just couldn't bear the heat and since P is still in Sikes I opted for a nap instead. Much love to you all!

As I sit here I feel so incredibly blessed to be sharing this news!! Preston and I got back from a quick post-swim lesson trip to the pool today and I had a message from Maternal Fetal Medicine in Baton Rouge. My heart immediately started beating faster as I frantically dialed. SO many things were running through my head, but my mind was at ease when I heard the nurse's tone when she first started talking. Sure enough, Baby Parker's screening tests came back NEGATIVE (with a whopping 1:1000 chance of Downs and 1:10000 chance of trisomy 18)!!! I of course called Jeff first thing and the relief in his voice is not something I will soon forget. The significance of these numbers? Well, just by statistics Jeff and I have appox a 1:300 chance of having a Downs syndrome baby. (That calculation is based on his age, mine, and the fact that we have had a Downs pregnancy) Soooo, this AWESOME screening number means that based on two hormones in my blood, and the thickness of baby Parkers neck in three places, there is a 0.001% chance that this baby in my womb has Downs. There is a 10% false negative rate on this test, but Jeff and I had already decided if this test was negative we are not testing any further. Now, I WILL keep my appt for 6/28 to find out this baby's sex, but I will not do a quad screen or any further blood/amniotic testing because I know in my heart that this baby is perfectly healthy.

And as I share that news, my heart is pressed to share a prayer request for a couple in Winnfield who just delivered a Downs baby who is having some difficulties now and will certainly continue to as he goes through life. You know, I can admit that I struggle to be content. I think that is just human nature. I recognize that challenge for myself more as I get older and can try to rise above it, but it sneaks up on me sometime all the same. So, today, I am blessed and ever so content in the knowledge that my life and most of the time job as a wife and Mom have a definite purpose, and I am beyond grateful for my station in this world.

Wedding Weekend

The Parker family is all laying pretty low this Sunday afternoon after a busy--and very fun-wedding weekend celebrating with Kendal and Kevin Singh! The only pictures I have are from the rehearsal dinner, but hope to order a lot from the wedding because Kendal is purchasing the "rights" to print her own pics. I really think besides minor details, the whole thing went off without a hitch and that is definitely a testament to Kendal and Mom's diligent planning. There was a small hiccup with Preston waking up with pinkeye Saturday morning, but a dentist and pharmacist in the house helps to get meds ASAP. We also made sure K-K had some pinkeye medicine to take to Hawaii....just in case :)

First we had the rehearsal dinner hosted by Kevin's family. It was held in Natchitoches at Merci Beucoup and was a very nice night. There were many sweet toasts and you could definitely tell how much these two are loved. A toast of note was my Dad, who did such a great job and I am sure it meant a lot to Kendal. I got through my toast without the aid of any wine (ha!) and Jeff had a few funny things to say.....

We had a bridesmaids luncheon Saturday morning, then the usual getting hair done, makeup done and picture time with all of the families before the ceremony. Kendal was a BEAUTIFUL bride, and all of her choices of flowers, attire, etc. were just perfect. I loved her pink peony bouquet!! The ceremony was beautiful, and reverent, which I KNOW is what Kendal wanted. And can I tell you the Preston Luke Parker was a CHAMPION walking my great-grandfathers Bible down the aisle with ALL of those people watching..and he walked ALL BY HIMSELF!!! I told someone in my family that I was BEAMING with pride that he simply walked--that I can only imagine how proud I will be when he hits it out of the park!! (or makes a hole-in-one, or wins the race.....) We had bribed him for two days with a Lightning McQueen RED racecar and he got it on the way to the reception :) The Civic Center was decorated beautifully for the reception, and the food was excellent. The band was great--they needed a little "crowd management" help but their sound was great. (All the people would get out on the floor then they would play some random song that was impossible to dance to.....but they were good!)

This morning my Mom hosted a brunch for the family still in town and when we left they were going to take a NAP! Hope you got a good one Mom :)

Baby Parker 13 weeks

I don't rememeber when it was exactly, about a week ago I think, that I actually prayed that I would feel nauseated because I have felt SO GOOD this pregnancy that I was scared something was wrong. Well, God did answer that prayer the very next morning, and how happy I was!! But, now that I have reached the 13 week mark (today I think I am right at 13 weeks, baby measured anywhere from 12w5d to 13w1d on different measures...I'm calling it 13 weeks) I am pretty sure I was just incredibly blessed and had a VERY great first trimester. Jeff came with me to the perinatologist today, and the two hour wait was well worth it when we saw baby Parker just flipping and waving at us. I won't bore you with all of the stats we had to pour over with the MD today, but we decided to go ahead with the screening test for Downs and should get those results in a week. Truth be told, I have a REALLY GOOD FEELING that this baby is PERFECTLY healthy. Because our Downs baby had a condition called "hydrops" which really just means excess fluid, we are always on the lookout for fluid in places it shouldn't be and today everything looked GREAT! The only downer was that MD would not say anything about the sex, even if he had an opinion, and you KNOW I was asking. Oh well, he wants to see me on 6/28 so having that date on the calendar when I KNOW we can tell is very reassuring to planner over here.

Memorial Day Bash

It was such a treat to be invited to Becky and Hunter's today for a little Memorial Day celebration! I will have to say the Smiths are just fabulous hosts, and everyone had a great time. I did not lug the Canon to the party, just took a couple of shots on my phone, but I think you can get the idea that P and all the kids had so much fun not only in the pool but especially with the cool water toys. Preston was living it up--catching air going down the waterslide and playing with the big boys--he was exhausted! I got him down tonight with just one book and that NEVER happens. Hunter wanted to attempt a group shot of ALL the kiddos, and I got one, but I thought this shot taken when the kids were still in motion was funnier :) Happy Memorial Day everyone!

Fun in the Sun!

I don't know who is more excited that the pool is open for the year-Preston or Mommy! Now, if you know me at all you know that laying out in the sun is just about my favorite thing to do, and nowdays that P can float around the pool in his puddlejumper and be entertained for HOURS....well, let's just say it's a Win/Win :) Preston and I were the first people on the first Saturday of the pool season (can you believe it???) and had the pool to ourselves for a few so I got a few shots of him just floating around all by his lonesome having a blast. Georgia and Mrs. Joanna came shortly after we got there, and P and Georgia played together some. They sure did look like little Orient Expressed models in their coordinating blue searsucker swimsuits:) Don't really know why but the club served free hotdogs and hamburgers for lunch we all really enjoyed that. Then, we settled in for a few more hours in the afternoon. P was excited when Cull came, and they had a pretty heated watergun exchange. At about 2:30, it was time to call it a day. As I speak, Preston is chilling watching a movie, and I don't look for him to move soon. Hope you are having a good weekend. Jeff is taking me to dinner tonight to celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary...WOW! How time does fly--but we are still having fun!!!

There are SO MANY reasons Jeff and I are so grateful for being able to call Ruston home, but one of the most important is that we are so close to both of our families and are able to spend so much time together. I really can't fathom only seeing my Mom at Christmas and Thanksgiving!! My mom took these pics yesterday when she, Pop and Preston headed out to the Gone Wild Safari in Tioga. Tioga is near Alexandria and very close where my grandparents live (in Ball). So, Nana and Pop were gracious enough to keep Preston all day while Mommy gave people their medicine :) Hope you enjoy the pics--it sure looks like a fun time! I also included the pic of him swinging on the front porch swing at my grandparents. Oh, the hours Kendal and I swung on that swing.....Happy Weekend!

There was almost a closure as we loaded Kendal's last shower gifts into the car today...the big day is almost here! I am so happy for my sister and her sweet fiance, and can not wait to share in their big day! Baby Parker-10 weeks

Did you know that the DR/tech turns the ultrasound screen away from you when they first start looking at early OB appointments? I have noticed this in my many trips to the ob. Thankfully, today, almost instantly Dr. LeBleu said, "Look, I can see the heartbeat already" as she turned the screen around to me. What a beautiful sight! I tell you, I never cease to be amazed at early fetal development. Anyone who has spent much time around me has heard me wonder aloud how someone could not believe there is a GOD when they witness the miracle of a developing embryo into a fetus and beyond. It is truly breathtaking and I feel blessed that God has chosen Jeff and I as parents to this tiny miracle. Although everything looks GREAT so far, please don't stop praying!!! We see the perinatologist on June 1st and are certainly not "out of the woods" yet. But, having said that, I just feel like if something were amiss, some sort of red flag would have been raised by now. I am doing by best to trust in God's plan...so as for today, we are super excited, admittedly a little apprehensive but all in all feeling very blessed. Much love to you all!!

Monster Truck Bash!

I was disappointed that I forgot my camera this morning to go to Kendal's holiday shower, but turns out it was a good thing because Jeff got to get a few shots of Preston at Davis' 3rd Birthday monster truck bash! I don't know what it is, but little boys LOVE trucks! Any kind: expensive, with lots of bells and whistles OR the dollar store versions; big or small; it does not matter! I was unable to attend the party, but I could tell Amanda went all out with the tires and rides in the big Jeep. Jeff said Preston ate hotdog and CARROTS at the party so that lets me know that boy was hungry :) Anyway, hope you are having a great Mom's day week. I could not be more grateful for my Mom and I hope that she knows how much I appreciate her!! Happy Mothers Day!!

***Pregnancy update***
Not to much to report-still feeling about the same. I feel like I am already getting HUGE but just today some Moms with 3+ kids were encouraging me that the growth does come more quickly but is not necessarily exponential. WHEW! Hoping to have another ultrasound when I go to the OB and get some good pics to post :)

Tea Party

I just don't think a picture can do justice to how BEAUTIFUL Kendal's girly "tea party" turned out today! I can't, however, take much of the credit because her sweet friends took the reigns and made it so special. All I did was make coffee/punch and put out a white tablecloth and they transformed the room. We had a good turnout despite the gloomy weather (I thought this wasn't coming until Sunday?) and Kendal got some beautiful things. Preggo here put my calling card on the WRONG GIFT and had to go up to my gift closet to find the right one--but other than my OOPS I think the party went off without a hitch. Thanks again to Resa for watching Preston this morning as Jeff was also otherwise committed. Hope you are having a great weekend!

***Pregnancy Update***
I realized the other day as I was pulling a crumpled ultrasound picture out of my purse that I had almost forgotten about (SORRY BABY!) that I need to give this pregnancy as much billing as my first....so here goes. I don't even have an official due date yet, but I think I am somewhere in the 8 week range. Truly, up until this week I did not feel pregnant at ALL. (Other than the fact that my stomach just will NOT suck in, ha!) Have no fear, though, because I was working Thursday and had to leave abruptly to go get a snack else I would not have made it! Also, I have been eating like there is no tommorrow! Jeff took me to the Squire Creek crawfish boil last night and I ate all my crawfish, corn, potatoes, sausage AND ice cream....and I had to eat peanut butter/banana before bed. YIKES! Oh well, this may well be the last time I get to do this so might was well enjoy! I am so excited to be feeling pregnant!!

Easter Blessings...and BIG news!!

As I sit typing this looking at my wilting plants listening to my dryer buzzer going off I realize I don't really need to be blogging right now but you know I just had to get these pics up for my family to see!

We had a great Easter today, still are actually as I listen to Jeff and P outside playing with some new Easter toys :) P got up early and I was so glad I got to see him when he realized the Easter bunny had acutally come. Of COURSE he went for Buzz first, and heartily exclaimed, "COOL! A Buzz Lightyear!" I did take a video on my phone and when aforementioned chores get done I'm gonna try to send it out...I digress.

After church we headed to Squire Creek for lunch and Preston did pretty well. At first they did not have the canteloupe they usually have and he was just eating crackers (I kid you not he wouldn't touch the ROLL!), but when the canteloupe appeared life took an upturn. Of course, his favorite part of the meal is dessert and I was so tickled to get this shot of him weilding that huge spoon to accomplish his mission. We were glad Jeff's Mom joined us, and I love the pic of the three of us together.

Lastly, I would like to share that Preston is going to be a BIG BROTHER sometime in early December!! Jeff and I could not be more thrilled about completing our family, and sincerely ask for your prayers for this little life growing inside me. Much love to all and Happy Easter!

Kendal's Coffee

It was so nice of Kevins' Mom, Joan, to come down and we had not officially met before today. She was just so nice and I am happy for Kendal for having such a sweet mom-in-law. After the coffee Mom had us over for a yummy lunch then I headed home to see my boys. We all went out tonight to see "RIO" and I am elated to report PRESTON SAT THROUGH THE WHOLE MOVIE! Did not get out of his chair one time...I can't believe it. The Easter Bunny is certainly coming tonight :) After I get his stuff out I am about to call it a night because I have to be at church at 7:50 to sing in BOTH services in the AM...and yes that means I hear the sermon TWICE! But what a great one to hear because our Lord and Saviour is RISEN! Happy Easter everyone!

MDO Egg Hunt-Mrs. Velissa's class

It was so incredibly generous of Jana Beck to host Preston's MDO class Easter Egg hunt this morning! All of the kids had a blast, and I really enjoyed seeing their interaction together. Funny pics I included are Preston trying to get Georgia to hold the ducky--she was not interested :) I also can't help but crack up at George and Preston in their Mommies' sunglasses. And, the picture is not the best but I LOVED the shot of Preston handing the ducky to his teacher Mrs. Velissa. She has been with him since he was barely one and he has really gotten attached to her. No one will be surprised that Preston ate ALL of the candy in his eggs--well, except for what was completely melted that I managed to get away. But he did have a LOT! Oh well, it's only once a year....

Trinity Easter Egg Hunt

Sorry about the picture overload, but I really wanted to capture the "experience" of Trinity's Egg Hunt! Have to say Katie did a GREAT job putting this on. Preston was not so sure about ALL of this activity right at first, but soon jumped right in. He was GREAT at hunting eggs (notice the pic of him RUNNING to get the eggs!), marched right up to the "Easter Bunny" and told him repeatedly he wants a Buzz Lightyear from him, of COURSE loved the cupcake and making a craft with his sitter Miss Paige (she's in the purple shirt) and getting his face painted. However, the MAIN attraction was certainly the baby chicks. I think we were there about and hour and a half and he probably spent an hour with the chicks. We had some tense parenting moments when would get excited and shake/throw those poor baby chicks. All of the older children standing around him chastising his behavior did a MUCH better job than I did :) We are so blessed to belong to a church that LOVES kids and is always nurturing them in any way they can. What a blessed celebration!

Just can't say enough about how much I enjoyed spending these last few days with Kendal and her precious friends in Orange Beach. We stayed at the Turquoise Place and it was BEAUTIFUL!!! We did her lingerie shower on Friday night after a BIG night on the town...let's just say it's been a LONG time since I paid a cover charge :) Days were spent lounging on the beach until the beach attendant MADE us come in and most nights were spent just talking and visiting. I have to say thanks to Kendal's friends for helping make the weekend a HUGE success and say I am so lucky to have the sweetest sister in the whole world! Can't wait for showers to kick off Saturday!!

Preston has not slept at MDO this year....at ALL! It has really been challenging these months to deal with a toddler who has not slept all day. You may think Jeff and I are hermits, but truth be told we can't really venture out at night with Preston because on Tuesday-Thursday he really needs to be in bed at 7:00 or else he might pitch a random fit...ok, the odds are high.

How EXCITED I was to get this picture on my phone yesterday from Mrs. Velissa! Truth be told, I was working and Miss Paige was picking him up from school and I had told him she would get him an ICEE if he slept....no judgement please..it worked!

Now, if we could only figure out how to make this happen every day. Did I mention he ALWAYS naps at home? Now, he doesn't go willingly or anyting but it is usually not hard to get him down. Hmmmm....

Lazy Sunday Afternoon

After a week full of parenting challenges, it was nice to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon with my two best guys. Pictured is Preston playing "SuperWhy" on my iPhone (what did we DO before the iPhone?????)as he, Jeff and I enjoyed some outside family time this evening. We had a grill night, with the main attraction being a "Gator Egg." I had never heard of this but it is a mozzeralla stuffed jalepeno stuffed in a chicken breast wrapped in BACON...geez I need to run but it was delicious!! I hope all of Preston's friends (Georgia and Kennedy that I know of) are feeling good as new and ready to tackle this new week!!!

Throw me something Mister!

Well, it has been yet another week filled with ups and downs at the Parkers. Out of NOWHERE, Preston came down with a throat infection Wednesday, complete with fever and a really bad cough. That, coupled with a little tumble he and Miss Paige took down the stairs Thursday (I had to keep him home from school while I went to work) that required us going to Green Clinic to have his foot x-rayed (it is fine) made for a tiring, busy and not so happy couple of days.

However, things started turning around when Nana and Pop came Saturday morning to take P to the circus in Monroe. I can tell from all of his vivid descriptions that he had a great time. His favorite moment, when the clown "lost his pants!"

And today was just a great family day at the Krewe of Highland parade in Shreveport. We almost didn't go, because of the earlier mentioned cough and chilly weather, but by the time we got to Shreveport around 2:30 it was a BEAUTIFUL day! Preston really did have a blast hanging out at the CTB tent with Cullen and Anna Kate (notice he snuck a sugar from AK!) and had his "Throw me something Mister!" down PAT! I will admit I have never been much for North Louisiana Mardi Gras celebrations, but this was a great time and we will definitely do it again...

The Village

What a great night we had celebrating Katie Clark's birthday last night at The Village in Shreveport! It was a much better end to a week that started off pretty horribly for me. I am sorry if you have heard this story already, but for those of you who haven't let me share. (It's therapeutic) I was in a hurry Tuesday morning, and did not WAIT for the garage door to completely OPEN before I gunned it in reverse. CRASH! I hit door so hard that my car was stuck in the garage for most of the day until someone from Overhead Door could come get me out. The WHOLE DOOR has to be replaced, and I also did about $750 dollars damage to the back of my car. SHOOT! I felt so badly at first and really still do but Jeff and I have already been able to laugh about it because he has informed me the next time he does something like that, and let's face it accidents happen, that I can not say a WORD :)

Well, back to last night. It was a fabulous meal with great friends and a REAL treat! If you ever want a special occasion meal you should definitely check out The Village. (Hope that doesn't sound know-it-all but I love to get restaurant reviews.) Anyway, we had a blast and I was so glad we were there. Katie is such a special person and I am blessed to call her friend.

Overexposure?

I guess most of you did not get the email that I got last Thursday inviting TECH fans to Joe Aillet at 4:30 last Friday. My sister got it, but Jeff did not so I thought that was strange. But, you know I don't miss a photo opportunity (at least I can admit it, HA!) so I put Preston's jersey on and headed out. It was a GORGEOUS afternoon and he had a blast running around the field, tossing around the football, clowning with Champ and of course jumping on the jumpy. I titled this post overexposure because, well, you all may be seeing a LOT of Preston in the football media campaign this fall. You see, it was us, the John Denny family, and the Vessels...and that's about it. I guess we will see if they use any of the footage, they may not, but it was a fun Friday afternoon!

Hope you are all enjoying this pretty weather. We had Nana, Pop, K-K and Kevin over for dinner last night and we wiped the winter off the patio furniture and dined al fresco and had a great time.....more later....

Mardi Gras Half-Marathon

I don't know what it is about a road race-the anticipation, the comraderie with other runners or the celebration at the finish line-but I LOVE IT! Now, I am never in the running to "win" one of these events, but when I reach my personal goal the feeling really is pretty amazing!

My goal was to run this half-marathon faster than the last time I ran it. I gave myself a VERY reachable goal and I did it! Shaved off 5 minutes so my new PR for a half-marathon is 1:52:28. Of course, I am already plotting how I ram gonna run it 5 minutes faster next time.....

Had a GREAT time running with Mollie Robbins! I don't think she reads my blog but I just have to say I am SO PROUD of her. It really wouldn't have been the same without her so I must say, "THANKS MOLLIE!"

We went through Natchez Saturday and Jeff gave me 15 minutes at the Kelly's Kids Sale!! I was snatching and grabbing in all that craziness and I came away with some cute things...sorry no pics...but I got clothes for this summer, and next fall, and the next summer....I can't pass up a DEAL :)

Sadly, K-K did not get to have the fun weekend with Preston she had planned :( He threw up twice Saturday and it was really hard on K-K. She did such a GREAT job at cleaning up and keeping everything as normal as possible and I am SO GRATEFUL to her. Also, thanks to Nana for the trip to Jonesboro and thanks to Kevin for meeting her to get the phenergan gel to him. And especially thanks for letting me run my race before telling me--you know I would have turn around and come home if I had known so I appreciate getting to have the experience so much! Gotta go get ready for work-have a great day everyone!

Build-a-Bear

Jeff and I are leaving in the morning for New Orleans, so I thought Preston needed a fun day just for him! Of course, I got a LITTLE shopping in, but for the most part the time was spent doing what he wanted to do in Monroe :) We took our first trip to Build-a-Bear and although he was a little overwhelmed at first he did a really good job. I am grateful that he didn't try to pick out many "accessories" because I think we got out of there pretty cheap :) The last picture is where he is giving his new puppy, named "Puppy", some love. Afterward, we rode the carousel, had Chick-fil-A and of COURSE a giant cookie. Our only bad patch was on the way home when he was exhausted and needing a nap--he was whining incessantly and I told him to stop. His reply, "Ok, I'll cry then." (then pronounced DEN) Oh my--he is getting a little too clever....

Wish me luck Sunday. My right arch is KILLING me but I guess I'll just have to run through the pain. I would like to say good luck to all the other Ruston Runners headed south for the race..we should be well represented :)

Guacamole!!!

Nana made a special request today I take a picture of the shortest I have ever had Preston's hair, so I decided to document his newfound LOVE of Guacamole! P loved the stuff when he was a baby but because he is 2 he has not touched it lately. I let him sit on the counter while I did the dishes tonight, and he decided to help himself :) It MUST be his idea....

Wow-what PERFECT timing! The weather cooperated and warmed up just in time for Tech's "FAIR"well to Fresno State festivities tonight! The Parkers started off the evening with some delicious Pizza Inn (Jeff loves it when I am running distance and will go eat pizza buffet, HA!) then headed over to the TAC. There was a pretty big crowd and lots of fun things for the kiddos to do. Preston only got to "ride" three rides, as the lines weren't moving very quickly, but he had a GREAT time! I was really proud of how he did in the swings....SUCH a big, independent boy :) We were ready to go into the game at 7:00 and enjoyed K-K and Kevin sitting with us. I just put a tired little boy down around 9:00 and the Techsters won the game!!

On a sad note, please say a prayer for Mrs. Edith Price as she lost her husband, Larry, last night to a very long and painful bout with pulmonary fibrosis. Thanks.

Breckenridge 2011:Three GREAT days of skiing!

It is totally not like me not to have many pictures when I get home from a trip but I really didn't take many these last few days as Jeff and I travelled to Breckenridge, CO with our good friends Nancy and Trotter Hunt. We left EARLY Friday morning for a flight out of Dallas, and were on the lift when it opened Saturday morning. We had two LONG days of skiing, with PERFECT weather, that were really the most fun I have ever had skiing. Now, I was definitely the weakest skier of the bunch, but I could definitely hang in there. We did not go all the way up to the "bowls" at the VERY top of the mountain but we did most all of the blacks at the top. I think I had the most falls-four total I think-but nothing serious. Sunday night, after a fun date night in town, I woke up in the night with matted up eyes and THE PINK EYE! I am so grateful to Dr. Luffey for calling me in meds because Jeff went with me to get my meds and we were on the lift by 9:45....and it was MUCH colder....and it was snowing....and snowing...and it was COLD! We lasted until about 3:00 and decided to stop when we couldn't see each other. It is EASY to get separated skiing with four people, especially when Trotter and Jeff fly down the mountain at mach speed :) Anyway, we called it quits and Jeff decided he wanted a massage so we decided to end our time with a little treat! We cooked at the condo Monday night to get ready for our early morning trip to the airport...
Boy were we in a hurry for nothing! Because of the weather in Dallas, our 10:40 flight was cancelled, we could not all get on the 2:40 flight, so we were bumped to the 5:20...which boarded at 6:15....which sat on the runway until 7:45...mountain! We decided to drive home at midnight in the ice and it was pretty bad until we got to Terrell then we made good time and got home about 3:30 this morning. It was a long day but we made it!
Thanks again to Gran-Gran, Grandfather, Nana and Pops for keeping Preston! We will definitely be taking him on our next ski trip!

Family Fun

It's hard to get fired up to go "out" on cold winter nights, but I was so glad Jeff and I decided to have a family night out last night! We went to the Portico for dinner and then headed over to the TAC to cheer on the Dunkin' Dawgs. Now, it wasn't that exciting of a game, but Preston loves the action and actually did the best he as ever done at sitting in his seat. We just told him if he ran off we were going home....that worked :) I snapped this shot of his interaction with CHAMP before he decided he was "scared" of CHAMP?!?! Moms-is this being scared of EVERYTHING just a phase???

Playroom Pics

I'm posting this mainly for the benefit of Nana, who has not seen my handiwork, and realize this is not terribly interesting. BUT, it's been a COLD January and there's not a whole lot else to report :)

I spent a lot of my time last week assembling/painting both of these pieces that are in P's "playroom." Truth be told, it is more like finished attic space but is warm in the winter, cool in the summer and PERFECT for a playroom because although it looks pretty organized now I can honestly sleep very soundly when it is a WRECK because no one sees it but us. Also, I gave Jeff a Wii for Christmas (really it was for ALL of us) and we got this new TV and the Wii set up in the room. We really enjoyed it the weekend of the ice storm, as Jeff and I were playing such a heated tennis match we were removing jackets because we were sweating--much fun!

Any opinion is appreciated--do the drawers need pulls? I think so--but Jeff says no because they have a groove in the top where they are meant to be pulled open. It needs SOMETHING.....

One quick story before I go. Yesterday afternoon, I was so excited to get P's crayons out becuase I bought him a $1 Curious George coloring book at Target. Well, he was not so excited about it and proceeded to EAT his green crayon. I was in the kitchen cooking, and he had it GONE before I realized it. I called poison control and they said not to worry and I also posted it on facebook and had about 10 people reassure me that kids will eat the darndest things. But really-this kid won't eat ANYTHING and he will eat CRAYON!?!?! Maybe I'm not meant to understand....

Hope you are all staying warm! My two running partners and I decided to X our outdoor runs this week, but are scheduled to run a long Friday morning. I guess it's time to get serious because I finally signed up for the Mardi Gras half in New Orleans. I have only run once, on the treadmill, and have been pretty stir crazy. Jeff chuckled when on Modern Family last week the husband character made a comment that his wife was like a border collie-had to be run every day or they get cranky. Yep, that's me :) Well, not every day....

Jeff and I had a great time bringing in the New Year last night with some really fun friends! The Hunts, the Clarks and Katie Hall made great dinner companions. So much so that we shut the whole place down...at 10:45, HA! Hope Lance gets to feeling better as he was under the weather but other than that it was a perfect evening.

Happy 2011 to you and yours. We are looking forward to a big year in our family with Kendal's wedding fast approaching and are so very thankful for all of our many blessings!!

A Very Merry Few Days....

I guess it goes without saying that the past few days have been filled with fun, family and many blessings. The Parkers are settled back into Creeks Edge this afternoon, after being in Winnfield since lunchtime Thursday. We spent most of our time at my parents, with a short trip down to Ball on Christmas day to bring lunch and visit with my sweet grandparents. You will notice that the hospital bed is still in the living room, but my Papa is MUCH better!! Thank you all again for your prayers.

As you can tell Preston has really enjoyed his "big" gift this year--his John Deere tractor. Santa brought it to him, but I still don't think he TOTALLY gets it because he was playing with another toy he got from Santa this afternoon and I asked him who it was from and he said, "NANA!" Oh well, all in good time....

We ate a lot, watched Preston A LOT (sorry Kendal and Kevin!) and most importantly spent time together. Isn't that what the Christmas holiday is all about? Much love to you all and I hope Santa was good to you :)

Christmas Spirit!

I've always LOVED Christmas--let's face it who doesn't! It's such a special time each year but this year I can honestly say has been very different as I have watched Christmas through Preston's eyes. He is the very definition of child-like wonder, seamlessly understanding both Jesus and Santa all at the same time. And although he is excited about the presents, I don't think he really comprehends it yet. Last night, during our celebration with Resa, after he openend this truck he didn't really want to open his other gifts....one gift was enough for him.. SO SWEET! We also made some Christmas cookies yesterday afternoon...not much to look at but they were DELICIOUS! Hope you are enjoying your Christmas break!

Can you tell these are MUCH better pictures than I usually post? Well, they would be if I could figure out how to crop them, which I have not, and since I am sitting here with wet hair needing to get ready for church it's not looking good for this post....*****

Jeff got me a fancy camera for Christmas--ok, he got a few hints :) It is really neat and I took these last night. Can someone help me with cropping them? I can magnify them on the LCD screen but don't know how to save it on the camera.THANKS!

Now to last night. We had a great time at Grandfather and Gran-Gran's farm in Sikes. We celebrated Christmas with them, the Bauders and Jeff's Aunt JoAnn. Preston got to try his first sparkler, had a GREAT time with Parker and got this neat tool set that he has been playing with all morning. Boy, we are going to need some new organization strategies around here after Christmas-do you see all of those little parts? I am sure I will find them all over the house by the middle of the week...

Anyway, hope you had a good weekend and I'm gonna go dry my hair.

We're Still Here!

Sorry about the picture overload but I needed to make up for lost time :) Preston was sick with the flu the week before last...so we didn't venture out much. He is much better and had a VERY busy day today.

Our morning started with "Breakfast with Santa" at Squire Creek. As you can see, Preston was a little terrified of Santa, but he had a blast eating pancakes and playing with Georgia and all of his friends. A special thanks to Nana for joining us...it was absolutely divine to have both Jeff and she there to help me out!

After that, we headed to Papa Simpsons Farm for Alex and Cullen's 3rd birthday party. I think the pictures speak for themselves. He had a BLAST! I really enjoyed seeing my little man interacting with the animals because he really does have a love for them. I may send out a Kodak album to family because this is just a FEW of the good pics....

Small Town Christmas

First of all, I want to apologize for the poor quality of some of these pictures. I would REALLY like a new camera for Christmas. Something fast but not to cumbersome....Jeff are you reading this!?!?!?

Secondly, I did attend this event. The one picture of me is blurry from the horrible quality of this camera that the Consumer Reports said was great less than two years ago...did I mention I would like a good camera?

Ok, now to the fun stuff!! I am SO GLAD I decided to bring Preston to Jonesboro's Christmas festivities last Saturday. Jeff was going duck hunting so I called my Mom and she said that she and Pop would love to join in on the fun so that made it all the better.

Jonesboro is the very definition of a small town--but I will have to say their Christmas celebration was top notch, and most importantly, perfect for a two-year old. The parade had firetrucks, ATVs, beauty queens, Disney characters(see P getting a high 5 from Mickey), Santa Claus and OF COURSE very much candy. The pic where Preston is waving he is signaling Santa....

Following the parade was the tunnel of lights and of course a visit with Santa. HOWEVER, I fear that this is another year Preston will have not much to do with Santa...the picture where he is clinging to Nana for dear life is when we simply suggested he go tell Santa what he wants for Christmas...I am keeping my fingers crossed this attitude will change...most of you tell me it will not :)

Lastly, we watched a really fun fireworks show. I wish I had a GOOD CAMERA to capture the joy in his little face just looking at the fireworks. It was a very special night to see Christmas in the eyes of a child. Thanks for joining me Nana and Pop and hope you are all getting into the Christmas Swing!
